DJW TECHNOLOGY was founded in 2004 as a small business. Douglas Wheeler is the owner of DJW TECHNOLOGY and has over 40 years research, development and commercialization experience specializing in the fuel cells and hydrogen technology.

Today, DJW TECHNOLOGY provides complete services in the areas manufacturing, cost analysis and market analysis for fuel cell systems, hydrogen production technology and hydrogen purification technology. DJW TECHNOLOGY’s expertise in Proton Exchange Membrane fuel cells, Phosphoric acid fuel cells and reforming of hydrocarbons to fuel cell grade hydrogen provides the basis for contracts with the Department of Energy through the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the Department of Defense, the University of Hawaii and private industry. Research and development programs support the Office of Naval Research and the Naval Research Laboratory. DJW TECHNOLOGY’s technical expertise in stationary, portable, and transportation fuel cells is complimented by expertise in renewable energy and energy efficiency. Management experience and communications skills allow DJW TECHNOLOGY to provide a full range of services.

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory is a national laboratory of the U. S. Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.

The Hawaii Natural Energy Institute of the University of Hawaii
The Hawaii Natural Energy Institute (HNEI) located on the campus of the University of Hawaii at Manoa is an international leader in the renewable energy field. HNEI operates the Hawaii Fuel Cell Test Facility, which is a state-of-the-art test facility to characterize fuel cell performance and reliability.

Office of Naval Research
The Office of Naval Research (ONR) has a history as the science and technology provider for the Department of the Navy, advancing the operational concepts and visions for the Navy and Marine Corps of the future.

Naval Research Laboratory
NRL is the corporate research laboratory for the Navy and Marine Corps and conducts a broad program of scientific research, technology and advanced development. NRL has served the Navy and the nation for over 80 years and continues to meet the complex technological challenges of today's world.

Private Industry
DJW TECHNOLOGY maintains proprietary industry contracts that provide clients with cost analyses, market information and source of fuel cell and hydrogen technology products.


Mr. Wheeler received his Master of Science from Case Western Reserve University and has over 40 years of experience in research, development, demonstration and commercialization of energy technologies. Douglas Wheeler managed UTC Fuel Cells Advanced Technology Group and guided UTC Fuel Cells’ PEM technology team during the transition from Phosphoric Acid fuel cells to PEM fuel cells. He has participated in the commercialization of fuel cell systems and the development of hydrogen production technology. Douglas Wheeler was invited by the Department of Energy to review the status of fuel cell technology in Finland. Mr. Wheeler worked with Sandia National Laboratory assessing the Russian fuel cell technology for the Department of Energy. A cooperative research and development program was established with Russia and Sandia National Laboratory to develop fuel cell bipolar plates. Mr. Wheeler has conducted technical, manufacturing and economic assessments of fuel cells and hydrogen technology. Mr. Wheeler has 18 U.S. Patents.
